Sheet Metal Fabrication is a combination of machining and forming process applied to metal sheet. Using material removal processes such as punch, drill, laser/wire cutting, CNC and so on creates holes and cut-outs in any 2D geometric shape. Then using tooling performs forming process including bending, embossing, press, welding and so on. Sheet metal process is widely applicable in aerospace, industrial, medical, home appliance, automotive and consumer products such as chassis, covers, plate, brackets and so on. Here are the advantages of Sheet Metal process.
1. Cost effective. Tooling cost was significantly saved comparing to traditional stamping process, less than 1/10 cost of stamping cost for low volume protypes.
2. Rapid process. Leading time can be as fast as 2 days.
3. Good quality and general tolerance. +/- 0.1mm for edge. +/- 0.2mm for features.
4. Material Diversity: Steel, Aluminum, Copper, Bronze. Metal sheets thickness can vary from 0.5mm to 10mm. We accommodate for different thickness upon request.
5. Customizing surface finishing: plating, coating, anodizing, shot blasting, knurling and so on.
Stamping process:
Stamping is also know as pressing, which is a process forming flat metal into the desired shape. Bending and forming tool, stamping dies, has to be designed per the final shape. Stamping and press machine has to be chosen based on the size, thickness and material type of raw metal material. Normally it is conducted with other metal forming operation such as punching, blanking, embossing, bending, flanging, coining and so on. Stamping process is commonly produced end user high volume product. Such as home appliance manufacturers, automotive companies, the lighting industry, telecommunications services, military and defense, aerospace industries, medical equipment manufacturers, and electronics companies.
Advantage:
1. Piece price will dramatically drop for high volume production
2. High quality and durability per design
3. Pre production validation
